Chapter 9 and the rest of the week

Hello my students! Unfortunately I will be out again. My daughter is in the hospital very sick. So this means that I expect my 17 year olds to be responsible and do their work on their own!

1. You must read all of Chapter 9. In addition to reading it, you are responsible for taking your own notes on the chapter. . .

2. In a email please send me a copy of the notes you take. Please do not rewrite the chapter -just take notes on the important information! Please break up each page by section 9-1, 9-2, 9-3
Put a title for the section and bullet points of important information.

YOUR EMAIL MUST HAVE YOUR NAME AND govt class SECTION ON THE SUBJECT AREA OF THE EMAIL. Those who do not have name and and class section will not get credit!!

3. Last but not least I would like you to look up the President Pro Tempore of Senate who actually just died yesterday and tell me about him in the comment area.

  1. Senator Daniel Inouye Inouye was a World War II combat veteran and the most senior senator in the U.S. Senate. He died Monday of respiratory complications at the age of 88. He is a democrat from Hawaii. He had served in the Senate for 49 years, since 1963. He was the longest-living serving member of the Senate. When Hawaii became a state in 1959 he became the state's first Congressman and the country's first Japanese-American Congressman. He was hospitalized on many occasions. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 442 Regimental Combat Team. He dreamed of being a doctor, but unfortunately he could because of the war. After the war, he was nominated for the Medal of Honor but did not receive it until later, when President Bill Clinton bestowed the honor for his courage during World War II. He was also the President pro tempore of the United States Senate from 2010 until his death on Monday.

  2. Sen. Daniel Inouye was an 88-year-old Democrat who has been in office since Hawaii became a state in 1959 died on Monday. He became Hawaii's senator in 1962, three years after the state joined the United States. He was the longest serving sitting Senator and the second-longest serving senator in U.S. history. The senator had been sick for some time, hospitalized since early December, and was fighting respiratory complications as work was done to stabilize his supplemental oxygen requirements. When he entered the hospital, the senator's office explained that in the late 1960s, Inouye was misdiagnosed with lung cancer and had a sizeable portion of his left lung removed. In November, Inouye could be seen using oxygen on the floor of the Senate and has been spotted also using a wheelchair at times.

  3. Senator Daniel Inouye was born on September 7, 1924, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the son of Kame and Hyotaro Inouye. He was a Nisei Japanese American and grew up in the Bingham Tract. Inouye became hawaii's first US reprensenative and then became senator in 1963. He happened to be the first Japanese American to serve as both a US reprensenatative and Senator. He was the most senior senator at the time of his death aswell as being the second-longest serving U.S. Senator in history. Inouye became President pro tempore of the Senate after Senator's Byrd"s death, this made him third in the presidential line of succession after the Vice President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. After Inouye fought for a country during WW2 that did not even trust Japanese Americans, he earned the Medal of Honor. On December 6th he was emitted into the hospital due to respiratory complications, but on monday December 17th, Senator Daniel Inouye passed away leaving many members of the senate in shock.

      Daniel Inouye was born on September 7, 1924 and became the President Pro Tempore in 1963. He was a Medal of Honor recipient and a United States Senator from Hawaii. He won every election for 58 years that he ran in. Daniel Inouye died on December 17, 2012 at age 88, he was the second oldest sitting senator in the United States.

Daniel earned the nations highest award for military valor, the Medal of Honor. Senator Inouye focused on defense matters that strengthen nation security and enhance the quality of life for military personnel and their families. He helped establish the inter-parliamentary Exchange Program between the U.S Senate and Japan's legislature. In 2000 the Government of Japan presented him with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. Daniel became the first Chairman of the Senate State Committee on Intelligence in 1976. He had a strong interest of Hawaii's people throughout his career. On monday December 17th, Senator Daniel Inouye passed away due to respiratory problems.

  6. Daniel K. Inouye was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 7, 1924. In 1941 he went to fight in war a served in the first aid category. He became a Sergeant. On May 27, 1947, he receives the Distinguished Service Cross (the second highest award for military valor), Bronze Star, Purple Heart with cluster and 12 other medals and citations. His Distinguished Service Cross medal was upgraded to a Medal of Honor in 2000. He broke into politics in 1954 with his election to the Territorial House of Representatives. He later won election to the Territorial Senate. When Hawaii became a state on August 21, 1959, Daniel Inouye won election to the United States House of Representatives as the new state's first Congressman. He was reelected to a full term in 1960. He fought for improved education and health care for all children, additional jobs for Hawaii's economy, health and human services in rural communities, affordable housing, and the protection of America's natural resources. He has worked to strengthen the armed forces, and enhance the quality of life for military personnel and their families. He was the first Congressman from Hawaii, but the first American of Japanese descent to serve in either House of Congress. He became president pro tempore of the senate because Senator Byrd's died.He passed away on December 17th of respirartory problems.

  7. Daniel Inouye was a senator of Hawaii and President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate from 2010 until his death in 2012. Up until his death, the senator was the oldest serving member of the Senate and was been serving since 1963. Daniel Inouye was a Captain in the United States Army and fought in World War II. He died at George Washington University Hospital of respiratory complications on December 17, 2012. Before his death, Daniel planned to run for a record tenth term in 2016, at 92 years old.

  8. The President Pro Tempore of Senate who recently died was Senator Daniel K. Inouye. He was a World War II combat veteran who received the Medal of Honor. Inouye was able to focus on defense matters that strengthen national security, and enhance the quality of life for military personnel and their families. He had a desire to provide the best possible assistance to the men and women who put their lives at risk to protect the United States. He helped establish the Inter-parliamentary Exchange Program between the U.S. Senate and Japan’s legislature. He became the first Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in 1976. Senator Inouye has championed the interest of Hawaii’s people throughout his career. With his support, Hawaii’s infrastructure has been strengthened, its economy diversified, and its natural resources protected and restored. Senator Inouye got his start in politics in 1954 when he was elected to the Territorial House of Representatives; soon after his election, his Democratic colleagues, well aware of Inouye’s leadership abilities, selected him as their Majority Leader. In 1958 he was elected to the Territorial Senate. When Hawaii became a state in 1959, he was elected the first Congressman from the new state, and was re-elected to a full term in 1960. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1962.

  9. daniel inouye was born in hawaii in 1924. he fought in world war 2 and earned a metal of honor. he was also a medical volunteer when pearl harbor was attacked. he had to get his right arm amputated because it was shot at war. in 1963 he became a senator. after being the senator for many years, he finally became the president pro tempore in 2010. he recently passed away on december 17th.

  12. Inouye was the second-longest serving senator in U.S. history, behind Sen. Robert C. Byrd. He was first elected to the House in 1959 which was the year Hawaii became a state and he won his Senate seat in 1962. He was also a WWII vet and he was from Hawaii. Inouye’s death was from respiratory complications and less than two hours after Inouye’s death, the Senate passed a resolution naming Sen. Patrick Leahy as the new president pro tempore.

  14. Daniel Ken Inouye was born September 7, 1924 and died December 17, 2012(88years old). He received a Medal of Honor and was a United States Senator from Hawaii (Democrat). He was the President pro tempore of the United States Senate from 2010 until 2012; he was considered the highest-ranking Asian American politician in U.S. history. He was also a medical volunteer when Pearl Harbor was attacked. 1963 was when he started in politics becoming a senator then moving on to become President Pro Tempore in 2010. Died December 17, 2012 of respiratory problems.

  15. Daniel Inoyune was the highest ranking American Asian politician in U.S History. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. One of his arms had to be amputated because of injuries from war He originally wanted to be a surgeon but because of his amputation, he gave up on that and went back to college. He died of respiratory complications on December 17th.

He became the senator of Hawaii in 1963.He was a high school senior in Honolulu on Dec. 7, 1941, when he watched dozens of Japanese planes fly toward Pearl Harbor and other Oahu military bases to begin a bombing that changed the course of world events.He volunteered for a special U.S. Army unit of Japanese-Americans and lost his right arm in a battle with Germans in Italy. That scratched his dream of becoming a surgeon and he went to law school and into politics instead. He was a war veteran. He adventually became the President Pro Tempore of the United States in 2010.
