1. As the founding fathers created a new government following the
American Revolution, the 13 colonies became known as "states". Based on
what we discussed in class today why were they now called states and not
colonies or 13 Nations or 13 Nation States?
2. James
Madison wanted to prevent "factions" or special interest groups as
stated on page 15. Do you believe that special interest groups would
hinder the development of the United States and would the present day
"Tea Party" be considered a faction in your opinion? why?
PLEASE ANSWER BELOW

ReplyDelete1) I believe the thirteen colonies became known as states instead of colonies, nations, or nation states because they began to fit the description of what a state is. States have a population of people, government, laws, and sovereignty
2) Yes, I believe not having factions would hinder the development of the United States because without them, no opinions could be expressed and no political parties could be formed. And no, i don't believe the present day "Tea Party" would be considered a faction because it has become larger.
1) They weren't called colonies because the word "colony" implies ownership and that's something that the American Revolution was fought against. It wasn't called the 13 nations because the founding fathers chose to form a government of the people, by the people and for the people. And it wasn't called the 13 nation states because we were one nation, but people came from all over the world. Therefore calling them states was most appropriate.
ReplyDelete2)I do believe they would hinder the development of the US because people will stop working for the common good and will begin to work to please a special interest group. I do consider the Tea Party to be a faction group because they're not representative of the republican party, they're representative of an extreme right wing which espouses utra-conservative views which may not be reflective of all republicans.
1. I think that the thirteen colonies later became known as states instead of a colony, nation, or nation state because of what a state is. The characteristics of the colonies were more like the definition of a state rather than the definition of a colony. They had a population of people, common heritage, laws and sovereignty.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, I believe that with no factions we would be able to hinder the development of the United states. Without them there would be no political parties and no opinions would ever be expressed. No the present day "Tea Party" would not be a faction because it is a part of the Republican party even though it is very extreme.

ReplyDelete1) I believe that the colonies became known as states because they eventually began to fit the description of a state. They became very diverse and even though the primary language is English, many other languages are spoken in the states. They couldn't be called colonies because they weren't being politically ruled by another country after the American Revolution.
ReplyDelete2) I do think that "factions" would hinder the development of the United States because if special interest groups started to form, people would be treated unfairly. I don't think the "Tea Party" is a faction because many more people are starting to agree with them, and they are part of the Republican party.
1. The 13 colonies became known as "states" because each state had different culture. Each state had a government, sovereign and laws.
ReplyDelete2. I Do not believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because there is a need for different political parties and different ideas. No, I do not think that present day "Tea Party" would be considered a faction because they just voice what they believe in and their opinion on certain things.

ReplyDeleteThe 13 colonies became states and are not called colonies, nation or nation state because states have a population, sovereignty, laws, culture and government.
ReplyDeleteI do think that having no factions would hinder the development of the United States. Factions are peoples opinions and it says that they are either for one thing, or against. It would make it hard to vote for a political party. I do think the Tea Party is a faction group because they are not of the republican party and they all have different views.
1) I think the thirteen colonies are now called states because the colonists wanted to show independence and they described what a state is.
ReplyDelete2) Yes, I believe that no factions would hinder the government. Factions could help our country grow much faster. The "Tea Party" shares ideas of how our country should be.
1) The founding fathers decided to rename the colonies and make them states because the definition of a state is somewhere with sovernity, government and people. "colonies" imply's being owned, rather than being owned by the people itself and being independent like a state.
ReplyDelete2) I think that social interest groups would do the opposite of "hinder" the u.s, without these groups the government couldn't exist because they wouldn't have any input from the people on issues they want fixed. I think the Tea Party is a faction because they are a group that has demands for the government that suit their needs.
1. To have a state there must be a population, strong government, diverse culture and sovereignty. Over time the 13 colonies have met these requirements and became a state.
ReplyDelete2. I agree. Without "fractions" or special interest groups there would be no government because all these groups help the government with ideas and help the government give the people what they want. Without interest groups there would not be any politics or presidents to rule a country. The present day "Tea Party" is a faction because it has evolved over time.
1.) The founding fathers called them states because each state has culture, laws, sovereignty, a government, and a population.
ReplyDelete2.) I personally think that the fractions are very important to American life and stability. Without fractions, I think that our country wouldn't be where it is today. These special interest groups help our country by building us up and supplying us with good ideas. These special interest groups are basically a voice for all of the people, and without a voice there would be no government.

1) The thirteen colonies are now called states, rather than colonies, nations, or nation states because they have their own unique characteristics. Specifically, each state has a legislative system, population, sovereignty, form of government, and a specific culture.
ReplyDelete2) I believe that without factions, it would be possible for us to hinder the development of the United States. First off, there would not be any political parties, if there were factions, and from these groups, different opinions are revealed and they help us to practice the first amendment. Next, I do believe that the present day "Tea Party" would be considered a faction because it is part of one political party (Republican), and it does consist of its own ideas and beliefs.

1. The original 13 states were named "states" because even though they were different regions that had slightly different cultures, they were all part of one nation with common cultural aspects. This included the sane language and even the same history.
ReplyDelete2. I do not believe that special faction groups will ruin the government because in the end the republican and democratic parties have the majority rule. I do believe that the "Tea Party" is a faction because it is a branch thats origins are republican but have different political views than the rest of the party.

1- The thirteen colonies were called state because the had thier own unique ways of living. They had their own belifs, laws, government, population and sovereignity in each territory.
ReplyDelete2-I believe having interest groups help so that we "the voters" have common intersts as who we are voting for. Political parties have to perswae us to vote for them. In order for them to perswade us we need common interests so we can connect with them on the opiniond they give to us. The Tea Party(Republican)have their own opinions and interests they need to bring out so we have an oppurtunity to listen and vote for them.

1. The 13 colonies were changed to "states" and not nation or nation-state because each state has their own government and sovereignty.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that factions or special interest groups help the development of the United States because it allows voice. And without a voice or opinion the government wouldn't know what to do and it wouldn't be fair to the people if we could not have an opinion. I do believe the "Tea Party" is a faction because it allows peoples opinions and does not just stick with one side.

1. The colonies were renamed as states, because colonies define as an outer country owning that section of land, and as they progressed to be their own country, the land was then severed from English ownership. They were now referred to as states because they consisted of the make up of one nation with one leadership.
ReplyDelete2. Without fractions, special interests groups would not be as diverse nor different in thinking when it would come to making the nation better as a whole when it came to change. Different ideas and different thoughts about change are what makes up the country when it comes to change in supply and differences to be made.
-William O'Connor
1. I think that the 13 coloines were called states because of the definition of a state. A state is within a nation, has indivual culture, people, territory, and sovereignty. Those 13 places were different so it was best to change their titles to a state.
ReplyDelete2. I do not believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States. If anything i believe that we need the opinion of others otherwise we wouldn't be a fair nation. America is based on different views, ideas, and religions so we need special interest groups. I do think that the present day tea party is a faction because they a group of people with there on views and beliefs.
1) they were now called the states because changes took place and each state had their own laws and beliefs and to be a nation state you had to follow those beliefs and each place wanted their own laws.
ReplyDelete2)" special intrest group" changed us because that wouldve made the government more stricter, and it would confuse everybody because they all had different ideas and it wouldve caused chaos.
1) The 13 colonies were renamed as states because colonies are ruled by a foreign influence and states are part of a nation but have say in laws and have sovereignty.
ReplyDelete2) I believe not having factions would hinder the development of the government because without them many of the amendments would have never been made. I do believe the Tea Party is a special interest group because it is a republican party yet has its own opinions on certain matters.
1. The 13 colonies were called states because when they declared independence, each individual colony saw themselves as their own country. Although the colonies had a large population, and shared history, languages, and traditions, they stood on their own. They had their own territory and government.
ReplyDelete2. I think that factions would hinder the development of the United States because they would focus on what the group wants to achieve, instead of what the nation as a whole needs to achieve. The Tea Party is a faction, in my opinion, because it branches from the Republican Party, but has some of its own beliefs and moral values.
1. The 13 colonies are now known as states instead of colonies or 13 Nations or 13 Nation States because the states combined are not a nation meaning everyone did not speak the same language, were the same race or had a common culture (food, music, etc.). The states were diverse with the different languages, races and culture and even rules. Every state had their own population of people, territories, government and sovereignty.
ReplyDelete2. I do believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because they would focus on what they are only interested in and what is best for them instead of everyone else that is not in the group as a whole. The present day "Tea Party" in my opinion is considered a faction because it is part of the Republican party even though they do allow other opinions.
1. They are called states and not colonies because the states have a population, a set of laws, sovereignty and cultures.
ReplyDelete2. Yes I think the factions would help the development of the United States. We would be able to focus on things that were needed. The Tea Party is a faction because people have there own input.
1. The 13 colonies were called states because they became very diverse. They had their own government, individual cultures, sovereignty and spoke all different languages even though english was the common language. Each state had their own different populations of mixed cultures.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, i believe that without factions special interests groups would hinder the development of the US. They can now have different ideas and focus on what the groups want instead of a nation. The people would then be able to listen to the political parties in which we can vote for who we want. I believe that the present day "Tea Party" is a special interest group because it has its own opinions and different political views.
1. the 13 colonies were known as "states" because they began to be similar like states. forexample, new laws were created, new technology and diverse religions were being practiced.
ReplyDelete2 In my opinion i think special intrest groups would be good for the united states because more ideas will be brought up. I do think the present day "tea party" is a faction because it showed what alot of people has to say but they were all sharing the same idea

1) The 13 colonies are now called states because eachh state has their own set of laws , beliefs, colonies had all the same laws and beliefs.
ReplyDelete2) i Don't believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because special interest is based on opinions and freedom of speech. i do think the present day "Tea Party" be considered a faction because they have their own beliefs and opinions.
1) I believe the thirteen colonies became known as states instead of colonies because they contain people, laws and cultures.
ReplyDelete2)i believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because they would care more about the group then their nation and the tea party is a faction becase they have their own beliefs and views
1.I think the Thirteen Colonies later became known as states because they really started to develop into what a state is. They started to fit the description of a state. States have diverse populations, cultures and all sorts of laws that make them a state.
ReplyDelete2.Factions developed the United States into what it is today. Without factions and "special interst groups" there wouldn't be a strong government because it helps the government make the laws and gives the people the chance to state their opinions. The "Tea Party" is also a faction because they have their own belifs and opinions they want the government to hear.

1)Today, the states are now called states and not colonies, 13 nations, or 13 nation states for four main reasons. The first and most obvious essential for a state is people. Each state has it's own population. This second is a states territory. Each state has established it's own individual boundries. The third and key characteristic odlf a state is it's sovereignty. This means the state has supreme and absolute authority within it's territorial boundries. Finally, the fourth reason is that each state has some form of it's own government.
ReplyDelete2) I believe the specail interest groups would hinder the developement of the United States because the special interest groups expressed their own ideas. They helped present problems and pushed for different laws to be passed. I do not think the tea party would be considered a faction because they are not a special interest group. They are a political group. A faction would operate in the interests of all people whereas the tea party would only operate in the interests of certain people.
1. They are now called states instead of colonies, nation states or nations because a state is made up of population, territory, sovereignty and government. A state is a community of people with different beliefs that live in a set area with a government that could make its own laws without consent from anyone.
ReplyDelete2. Factions would not hinder the development of the United States because this is what our government was based off of. Factions can include anything from political parties to small interest groups. A democratic-republic government needs a lot of smaller factions rather then an extremely large faction that could possibly rule the government and outvote any of the smaller factions. The Tea Party is a faction because its a group of people with similar beliefs and interests. It is a faction because it is a small group inside a larger group.
1 The 13 colonies became know as "states" because a state stands for a certain political community that owns a specific piece of an area. It also has local government to enforce and make certain laws without approval from any higher authority.
ReplyDelete2 I believe that special interest groups help the development of the United States by giving certain people who care about certain issues a way to have their voices heard. I also think that Tea Party is not special interest group because they are a political party.

ReplyDelete1) our states are now called states and not colonies or 13 Nations or 13 Nation States because unlike colonies or 13 Nations or 13 Nation States a state has population varifications territorial boundery line a capital a sovereignty and a somewhat of a self goverment while colonies or 13 Nations or 13 Nation States has none of those things.
2) for me it would be a mixed answer of yes/no because it may depend on who is president at the time, if someone is weak or eassily convinced with bribe or even black male special inteset groups may make their way back, or if someone is strong and can hold his/her ground and put his/her foot down about how tings will go special intest groups will continue to not exist. Personal i think they are wrong and no one should be favored in a goverment based on what they can offer and thats why i believe James Madison prevented them in the first place.
1) the 13 colonies became known as "states" because states have a population, sovereignty, social order, and laws.
ReplyDelete2) i believe that not having favtoons would hinder the development of the united states because if they did not exist no on would have an opportunity to express their opinions. No, i do not believe the present day "tea party" would be a faction because they are part of the republican party.
The colonies were called states because they fit the characteristics. Each one has their own population of people, boundary lines, government (to an extent due to each state being an individual part of the nation), and holds their own laws.
ReplyDeleteThe interest groups would not hinder the development of the United States because opinions expressed is what makes our nation keep progressing. Since the present day "Tea Party" is part of the Republican Party, i dont believe it is a faction (or interest group)
Colonies were considered states because they had their own government, a certain amount of people (population) and made their own rules and regulations to live by (laws).
ReplyDeleteI think that without factions interests groups would hinder the development of the United States. No i would not consider the present day"tea party" to be a faction because it is part of the republican party which most people are already familiar with.
The colonies became known as states because they had their own diverse culture. They are apart of the government but still follow sovereignity. Sovereignty is the practice of each state having their own laws and policies. They have their own territory and boundary lines.
ReplyDeleteWithout factions, no one would be able to express their feelings and it would limit the people's voice in government. I would consider the Tea Party is special interest group because they voice their opinion to the government even though it is such a large group.
the colonies were called states because they regulated laws, had a government, population, and boundary lines.
ReplyDeleteI think fractions could be good for the united states because everyone has their own opinions and ideas they could share. I think the Tea Party is not a fraction because it is a part of the republican party.
1. The 13 colonies became known as states because they began to form their own governments. They also established set laws for each state. Colonies were all ruled by one central government so they broke apart to be their own seperate states.
ReplyDelete2. the special interest groups would just help better the government. They provide funding for the government and resources they may need. The tea partywould not hinder the developement of the government because they belive most of the same thuings as present day republicans. They just are very extreme about what they believe in.
